Here Is What Happens To Your Body If You Don’t Drink Enough Water

The human body is consisted of average 75% water. We are causing a whole raft of health problems by not drinking enough water which can all be avoided by simply increasing our water intake.

When you feel thirsty it is a sign that many bodily functions are already at risk and your body is already dehydrated. Most people underestimate how much water should be consumed every day.

The average amount of water that an adult loses each day by simply eliminating waste, breathing, sweating and urinating is same as 10 cups of water, so it does not take long for a water imbalance to occur.

When you take into consideration that the blood is made up of 92% water, our brain is 75% water, muscles are 75% water and our bones are believe it or not 22% water you can see why water, or lack of it, affects our entire body.

Here we have just some of the ways in which we are risking our well being and health with not drinking enough water.

DIGESTIVE DISORDERS

A lack of water and alkaline minerals including calcium and magnesium can lead to many digestive disorders such as ulcers, acid reflux and gastritis.

WEIGHT GAIN

When cells are dehydrated within the body they become depleted of energy. This sends signals to the brain which the majority of people confuse with hunger signals. This means we often eat more to restore energy whereas in fact we should simply reach for a glass of water first.

HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

The blood is normally about 92% water, in a fully hydrated body. The blood becomes thicker, when we become dehydrated increasing our blood pressure and resulting in higher resistance to free flowing blood.

KIDNEY AND BLADDER PROBLEMS

In a dehydrated body there is a buildup of acid waste and toxins as the kidneys are unable to flush these out effectively. This in turn provides an ideal environment for bacteria to thrive and frequent kidney or bladder infections are the result.

HIGH CHOLESTEROL

If the body is dehydrated, as a mean of preventing further water loss from cells, it will produce more cholesterol.

STIFFNESS OR JOINT PAIN

The cartilage padding within our joints is mainly composed of water. Therefore natural joint repair is interrupted and dehydration will cause a weakness in the cartilage which results in stiffness and pain.

CONSTIPATION

The colon is one of the main regions that we draw water from, when the body is dehydrated, in order to provide sufficient fluids for essential functions around the body. A lack of water intake means that waste moves through the large intestines far more slowly causing severe constipation.

SKIN DISORDERS

Our skin naturally eliminates toxins from within our bodies. Anyway a dehydrated body is unable to work efficiently which makes us more vulnerable to many skin disorders including discoloration, psoriasis, premature aging and dermatitis.

ALLERGIES AND ASTHMA

If we become dehydrated our bodies will automatically constrict our airways to conserve water. Studies have shown that as the body loses more and more water, the rate of allergy causing histamines produced within our bodies actually increases exponentially.

FATIGUE

The most important source of energy throughout the body is water. Dehydration leads to sluggish enzymatic activity which then results in excessive fatigue and tiredness.

PREMATURE AGING

Skin is the largest organ of our body. Severe dehydration causes all organs, but especially the skin, to wrinkle and wither prematurely.

We should all aim to drink, on average at least eight 8oz glasses of water each and every day. We need even more if we are in a hot climate, are ill or exercise. It is believed that drinking cold water can burn more calories and speed up our metabolism as a result. The effects of an increased metabolism can begin 10 minutes after drinking it and peak approximately 30 minutes later.

If you want to lose weight you should drink two 8oz glasses of water before your meals. As you are not mixing the hunger and thirst signals, this will lead you to cut down on portion size and the water will also help you feel full.

A healthy practice to get into is to just sip water throughout the whole day.

Water will boost your blood pressure back up to normal levels as they naturally drop through the night and it is also far healthier than coffee to be consumed first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.

Sugary sodas and sweetened juices do not count for liquid intake. They compound dehydration as the added salt and sugar causes the body to use extra water to flush them from your system.
